WENLOCK ROAD

IMG_0411e.jpg

WENLOCK ROAD is a real street in South Shields and this script is the very real & true story of a family living on the breadline and the hardships faced by a young lad who is just trying to survive long enough to escape.

It's the late 1970's and the story tells of one boy's struggle to be better, be accepted and to fulfil his ambition to join the Royal Navy

The cast has been chosen from dozens of talented actors from around the North East, Some of whom, actually come from the very street where this film is set.

Filming will begin in early spring and we are hopeful that we can showcase the production in the autumn at the Customs House, South Shields.

Follow our progress and meet the cast over the coming weeks by visiting our Facebook pages

WENLOCK ROAD has an emotional charged scene where we see 'George' played by Harris Miller, standing alone, waiting for his train to Newcastle then onwards to his new life in the Royal Navy.

After extensive searching we think we may have found the station where this scene will be played out.

Stanhope railway station is part of the Weardale Railway and we are hoping that permission will be granted that will allow this hugely important scene to be filmed there. Of course we will also be looking to use their amazing 1970's DMU Train and the station masters office for some of the other scenes.

In order to capture the essence of the period we have also spoken to the team at Tanfield Railway and we are delighted to announce that the rail yard and loco scenes will be filmed in and around the Tanfield Railway site.

A special 'goods' and coal train will be rigged for the scene where Geordie & Danny are setting off to pull trucks to Crewe and back

A massive thank you to the team at Tanfield for their help and of course, giving us the permit to film in and around the railway.

In our quest to keep as much of the filming as possible in and around the South Shields area we are thrilled to be able to announce that the the pub scene that we have in the movie, will of course be filmed in 'The Steamboat' at Mill Dam.

The pub is well known for its unique and nostalgic feel and it was the obvious choice for our team when we went in search of somewhere in the town that would play and feel right for the period

Look out for us in coming weeks as we begin to create our masterpiece that will be WENLOCK ROAD.

A big thank you to the manager and team at the pub.
